Edit: Okay guys, you got me, I screwed up the pricing. A 2 bedroom in Parkdale goes for $2500 to $3000 CAD nowadays, and that's not even a particularly great area of Toronto.
Shit apartment here in Oregon are 1100+ if you are in like a 35 mile radius of Portland. I had to move to Salem when I work in Portland because the prices are so unreasonable. I know someone in wilsonville ( a really small suburb of Portland) who pays 1600 for a fucking 2 bed 1 bath... I wish 1000 a month was expensive here
I disagree and think it's possible for houses to be overvalued

Why would he rent even if its just for a year. He probably needs a mansion north of 20k a month so thats blowing 240k on a lease. He can but a 5 to 8 mil dollar place and probably sell in a few years for a profit whole renting it out once he comes to la
Is it true that many rich Chinese have moved there and raised the market?

Vancouver for sure, not sure about Toronto

They sure have. Probably not to the extent of Vancouver, but a lot of the the suburbs surrounding Toronto (Markham, Richmond Hill, etc.) have significant Chinese populations.
It is also incredibly common to see international students with condos downtown going to U of T.
Man I was so jealous of those rich Chinese kids. I’d go to the parking lot to get in my shitty Honda and these international students were getting in Maseratis and Ferraris and shit.
every time you walk by bahen; there is always a super car parked in front.

Also the parking behind UC ALWAYS have a Ferrari or BMW i7 just casually chilling there

'students'
I was talking with a U of T prof in 2009 and she told me that U of T uncovered a ring where international students were paying random people to take courses for them for their whole undergrad.
They didn't even show up or write any tests. Literally paid people to take every test for them from freshman-senior.
Apparently, Chinese citizens can only buy $50K USD of foreign currency per year. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but is there a stipulation in there for students? I wouldn't be surprised if people sent their kids to university as a ruse to get their money out of China.
