In the 18 infected individuals, viral shedding detected by quantitative PCR (qPCR) (a secondary endpoint) became quantifiable in throat swabs from 40 hours (median, 95% CI (40, 52)) (~1.67 days) after inoculation, significantly earlier than in the nose (P= 0.0225, where initial viral quantifiable detection occurred at 58 hours (95% CI (40, 76))) (~2.4 days) after inoculation (Fig.2a,b).
