France’s birth rates started to steadily decrease in the early 19th century, exactly during the century when Europe’s population exploded until the early 1900’s. That’s when the situation for France in comparison to Germany or the UK changed. The UK was traditionally much less populous and populated than most parts of France. In the rest of Europe, birth rates only decreased in significant ways several decades after the death rates began declining rapidly.
