The recently completed Chinatown is the latest addition to Dubai Mall, the world’s largest and most visited retail and entertainment destination, and Emaar Mall’s flagship asset. In 2019, Kokaistudios was commissioned by Emaar Mall to be responsible for the architecture renovation and interior design of the commercial space of the project.

The new district, a contemporary take on the “Chinatown” concept, provides a uniquely themed shopping and leisure experience aimed at visitors and local residents alike, a journey through Asia’s architecture, fabrics, colors, tastes, smells and emotions, bringing the Orient to life.

在不同主题的零售区域，设计以不同的叙事手法进行空间表达：“霓虹都市”的灵感来自像香港这样的亚洲超高密度大都会，主力店铺为新科技品牌和先锋艺廊；“街头市场”集合了灵活的生活方式类商业如快闪店、中岛开放店铺；在“花鸟市集”，人们可以品尝最正宗的亚洲餐厅提供的美味；“中国园林”则更富乡野自然气息，由数个精心布置的水疗养生会所组成，为来宾提供宁静放松的氛围。
The space is articulated in different thematic areas, corresponding to different retail clusters and design narratives: from the ‘Neon City’, inspired on Asia hyper dense metropolis like Hong Kong and focused on tech retail and avant-garde galleries, to the ‘Street Market’, with its flexible lifestyle retail pop-ups and open tenants, from the ‘Bird and Flowers Market’, where to indulge in the aromas of the most delectable and authentic Asian restaurants, to the more vernacular and nature themed ‘Chinese Garden’, where to relax and unwind in a serene ambience offered by a range of curated spas and rejuvenation centers.

扩建后的唐人街总建筑面积约15,000平方米，包括新增租赁面积8,000平方米。设计为购物中心提供了两个全新的零售层；二层可从室内连通西侧的滑冰场和电影院及东侧的Address Fountain View区域；地面层沿街店铺则与林荫大道相汇，连接了市中心居民的主要通达路径，在这里，新的建筑立面用当代语言重新诠释了中式传统。
The expansion, 15,000sqm gross floor area and 8,000sqm of additional leasable area in total, provides an extension of the mall on two retail levels which have direct connection to Dubai Ice Rink and the Cinema, to the West, and the neighboring precinct of Address Fountain View, to the East, and will also serve as a main access for residents of Downtown through the new link with the Boulevard, where a new architectural street front reinterprets themes of the vernacular tradition in contemporary language.
